Quotes
There are so many quotes that I love from the movie. My boyfriend laughs at me because I can quote the whole movie from the beginning, and my little niece and I take on roles and act out their parts without watching the movie, we love it that much! Here are some quotes that I particularly love.
[Marley's Ghost]
I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link, and yard by yard. Is its pattern strange to you, or would you know the length of the strong coils you bear yourself? It was as full, as long, as heavy seven Christmas Eves ago, you have labored on it since, it is a ponderous chain!
[Ebenezer Scrooge] I can think of no greater wellfare than a night of uninterrupted sleep.
[The Ghost of Christmas Past] Be careful, Ebenezer Scrooge, I speak of your reclamation.
[The Ghost of Christmas Past] How long since you danced, Ebenezer?
[Ebenezer Scrooge] Waste of time, dancing.
[The Ghost of Christmas Past] You didn't think so then.
[Ebenezer Scrooge] There was a reason then.
[Belle] There's been a change in you since you've come to Fezziwig's. You were so gloomy.
[Young Ebenezer] Oh I think I should warn you, Miss Belle, I am of serious bent of mind.
[Belle] I consider seriousness to be an admirable trait of character, but it can be overdone.
[Young Ebenezer] I shall take heed of your advice, Ma'am, and go through life with a grin on my face.
[Belle] If there had been no understanding between us, would you seek me out and try to win me now, a dowerless girl with nothing but myself to bring to a marriage?
Silence from Young Ebenezer
[Belle] You have no answer?
[Young Ebenezer] You think I would not then?
[Belle] Oh Ebenezer what a safe and terrible answer! So characteristic of the careful man. Pause Ebenezer I release you. You are a free man. I let you go with a full heart. May you be happy in the life you have chosen.
[Ebenezer] I almost...went after her.
[The Ghost of Christmas Past] Almost carries no weight, especially in matters of the heart. And you did have a heart. Why didn't you follow her?
[Ebenezer] There's a lot of buying isn't there?
[The Ghost of Christmas Present] Oh, Ebenezer is that all you can see?
[The Ghost of Christmas Present] If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future the child will die. But if he is to die then let him die, and decrease the surplus population.
[Ebenezer] You use my own words against me.
[The Ghost of Christmas Present] Yes. So perhaps next time you will hold your tongue until you find out who the surplus population is and where it is. It may well be that in the sight of heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's child.
